If you do this loop in winter, note that the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is closed. Edit your itinerary by deleting the North Rim and adding a day for a long hike on the South Rim
Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, Arches, and Canyonlands National Parks compose Utah's Mighty 5. Looping back to Las Vegas will take you through Monument Valley, Lake Powell, and Grand Canyon
The higher elevations of Death Valley and Yosemite usually open around June-July-August. In winter, follow the Las Vegas to Los Angeles itinerary and then add 2 more days to continue up the coast to San Francisco
Explore the low elevations of Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Parks. This itinerary is great for winter, when moderate desert temperatures await. It is doable, but not recommended in June-July-August
Visit the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, Saguaro National Park, and the Arizona in between
Zion, Bryce, and Capitol Reef are practically on the way between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. You can visit these parks year-round. Continuing to Bozeman is doable but not recommended in winter due to multiple road closures
High-clearance 4WD required!
How to view and edit DetourOn itineraries
Click each point of interest in the itinerary to learn more about it.
If you want to save, edit, or download an itinerary, you'll first have to log in to your DetourOn account. If you do not have an account, you'll be prompted to create one prior to proceeding.
How to download a roadbook
If you like the template itinerary as is, simply click the PDF download icon in the upper righthand corner of your screen. You'll have a choice between
a simple download: Opens a PDF view of the itinerary with a short summary of each point of interest and average visit time;
a premium download: Opens a DetourOn Roadbook with detailed information about each point of interest. This includes a short history of the location, fun facts, practical information to know before you go, restaurant suggestions in the area, and more. It is essentially a mini guidebook specific to your itinerary
Both options are currently FREE since DetourOn is still a prototype in its early stages of development. We therefore urge you to choose the premium download and hope you find it helpful.
